The Eleventh Provincial Chapter of our Province was held from 3 – 13 May, 2011. The central theme of the Chapter was “Spiritual Renewal”. Fr. Jose Kumblolickal, MSFS, gave it a Teresian flavor with his reflections on the first day. During the sessions, Fr. Archibald Gonsalves was re-elected as the Provincial for another triennium. Frs. Dominic Vas, William Miranda, Silvestre D’Souza and Elias Daniel were elected as his Councilors. The Ordinances and Orientations that were adopted during the Chapter have been approved by the General Definitory. You have already received the copies. Fr. Provincial with one or two councilors (or Capitulars) has visited or will be visiting all our communities to explain further the main issues discussed during the Chapter. Let us pray that the spiritual renewal so much desired by us, may through our efforts take place at the individual and community levels.

This year our Province has been blessed with seven new priests. Deacon Ajay Nazareth was ordained on April 10th in his home parish of Mira Road, Mumbai. A little later on April 26th it was the turn of Deacon Godwin Arun Pinto who was ordained at Gangolli, Kundapur. Deacons Jason Tellis and Elias D’ Cunha were ordained Priests at our monastery at Carmel Hill on 27th of April. Their thanksgiving masses followed in their respective parishes – Mudarangady and Shirtady. Deacon Agnelo Rebello received the Sacred Orders on April 30th at Betalbatim, Goa. Finally Deacon Rajesh Madtha was ordained on 26th May at Belthangady and Ivan Sanctis was ordained on 28th May at Gantalkatte. We congratulate these new priests and express our appreciation to all their formators, superiors and benefactors who have accompanied them to the altar of God.

  • FROM ROME TO HOME: Another Priest for the Church!
We are delighted to invite you to the Priestly Ordination of Deacon Sunil Rodrigues on 3rd September, 2011 at Madanthyar Parish. He has already come back to India, after the completion of his theological studies at our International College in Rome.
    May the Priestly Tribe increase!

The Carmelites of the Karnataka Goa Province rejoice and thank the Lord for the gift of eight members who made their Solemn Profession on 27th May, 2011 at Carmel Hill, Mangalore during the Eucharisitic celebration, presided over by the Provincial. They are Bros. Anil Prashanth Lobo, Arun Sunil Lobo, Ivo Dias, Pradeep Pinto, Rajesh D’ Souza, Roshan Denzil Veigas and Vijay D’Costa. Bloom and grow in the garden of Carmel, dear brothers. Let us all pray that they may be faithful to their commitment all the days of their lives.

The same theology brothers were ordained Deacons on 9th June, 2011 and entered the clerical state. Most Rev. Aloysius Paul D’ Souza, Bishop of Mangalore who conferred the Sacred Diaconate, asked them to be humble servants after the example of their master Jesus Christ. After the Solemn Eucharistic celebration, they were all felicitated by Fr. Provincial. We wish them all the best in their ministry as Deacons.

On June 11, 2011 there was a special mass in the evening to mark the first death anniversary of Fr. Felix Silva, OCD. While Fr. Provincial presided over the Eucharist, Fr. Alvito Fernandes broke the word of God, with references from the life of our late Fr. Felix. All the community members from Xellim and Londa, and Fr. Diogo Proenca from Mapusa community came specially to participate in this commemoration. A good number of Fr. Felix’s family members and other friends from around the monastery attended. A big lamp was symbolically lighted by representatives of those present. After the Scripture reading from the letter to the Romans 12:1-2, Fr. Provincial addressed the 6 postulants by inviting them to let God and the formative community transform them, so that they are fully prepared to step into the Novitiate and make their commitment in Carmel. During the lunch that followed the brothers expressed their joy and gratitude through song.

We are grateful to God for giving us the gift of 21 new aspirants who began the initiation course at the Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa – Goa on Saturday 11th June 2011. Three of them have completed their PUC studies. Fr. Provincial officially inaugurated the year-long formation programme with a solemn Mass on the feast of St. Barnabas, apostle. He exhorted them to learn from the example of the saint who accompanied St. Paul on his missionary journeys, after he was formed well in the school of the Apostles. Fr. Ajith Rodrigues, the new director of the course, animated the liturgy. A special feature was the handing over of lamps which were lighted from the flame of the Paschal Candle, to all the aspirants. All the extern teachers who help us to form these candidates participated along with the community, Fr. Silvestre D’Souza (Councillor in-charge of formation) and the vocation promoters who accompanied the boys: Frs. Deep Fernandes, Michael Morris and Elias Daniel. The family members of Master Jason Coutinho (from Ponda, Goa) represented all the others, who could not be present on the occasion.

The aspirants come from the following places: 9 from Mangalore, 4 from Bangalore, 4 from Karwar / Honnavar, 1 each from Mysore, Goa and Mira Road – Mumbai and Kushalnagar. We thank all the vocation promoters who have worked hard to recruit these new candidates. Besides those mentioned above, we are also grateful to Frs.
