Fraternal Visit of the Propositus Generalis
Very Rev. Fr Miguel Márquez Calle, Superior General of the Order landed at Sadbhavana on 10th October 2022. Here, at 09-00 am he met the Cloistered sisters of our Mount Carmel Federation, and in the afternoon, he met them individually.

On the 11th of October, he along with Frs. Pius James D’Souza our Definitor and George Santhumayor our Provincial visited Pushpashrama where he met the Fathers and Brothers. He later paid a visit to Dhyanavana and at 12 pm had the Mass at the Shrine. In the afternoon, he visited Dhyana Sadhana and the Cloistered Carmel after which, he travelled to Tapovana, Kushalnagara. He also met the Bishop of Mysore and had lunch with him at Pushpashrama.

On the 12th of October, he celebrated the mass with the Novitiate community friars and began the journey to Asha Deepa, Madanthyar where he met the fathers and brothers in common. In the afternoon, he paid a visit to the Cloistered Carmel of Mangalore and St Joseph’s Monastery, Carmel Hill, Mangalore. He met the Carmelite Family of Mangalore at 5-30 pm. In the evening, he met both brothers and fathers of the community.

On the 13th of October, he held a meeting with the OCDS of Indian Provinces at Carmel Hill and at 12 pm visited the community of Ryshivana. In the afternoon, he visited St Anne’s convent and at 5-00 pm celebrated the Infant Jesus novena mass at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore.

On the 14th of October, the General had a meeting with the Superiors of our Province communities in India, and in the evening celebrated the festal mass of St Teresa of Avila, Patroness of the Province followed by felicitation and festal dinner.

On the 15th of October, Fr General met with the Provincial Council and visited the Cloistered Carmel of Bengaluru. At 1-00 pm, he had lunch with the Archbishop of Bangalore and the Rector of St Peter’s Seminary at Sadbhavana. And in the evening, he left for Delhi Province.

Besides this on the 26th of October during his visit to Sadbhavana, he met the Cloistered Junior Sisters of our federation who had a month-long course at Sadbhavana. And finally, on his return to Rome, he visited Sadbhavana on 29th November, and on the 30th of November, he celebrated the Holy mass for our friars at Sadbhavana and evening visited the parish of St John the Baptist, Vijayanagar, and said goodbye to our Province at 12-05 am on December 01, 2022.

The Superior General’s fraternal visit was a blessing to our Province, and all the friars and sisters witnessed his simplicity and docility. Despite his hectic schedule, he has made time for our Province’s members. The KG Province greatly appreciates his love and concern for our Province, and we continue to pray for him as he guides the Order along the path shown by our Holy Parents.

The first Canadian Carmelite is ordained!

The ripples of September 3, 2022, will appear not only in the Carmelites of the Canadian Delegation but also in the Carmelites of the Karnataka Goa Province. Deacon Frank Sharma became Canada’s first Carmelite to be ordained. He was ordained in Edmonton’s St. Joseph’s Basilica by His Eminence Richard Smith. The concelebrants were Rev. Fr Jerald D’Souza, Delegate Provincial, and other Carmelites and Diocesan priests. Besides the family and relatives of Deacon Frank Sharma, there were around 400 lay faithful who witnessed the occasion. Indeed, the blessing of a new Priest was a proud moment for Karnataka Goa Province and the Carmelites of the Canadian Delegation. We thank God for His abundant blessings. We congratulate Fr Frank Sharma and accompany him through our prayers.

All for the greater good!

The KG Province Plenary Council meeting was held at Ryshivana, Mangalore, from 21-23 November 2022. All three days were devoted to deliberating and discussing the agenda concerning vocation promotion, formation, ongoing formation, spirituality, apostolate, administration, and temporalities. The Silver Jubilarians -Frs. Lancy Mendonca, Ligoury Crasta, and John Baptist Pinto who completed twenty-five years of their religious Profession celebrated Holy Mass on the first day. Following the mass, a brief felicitation was held during which Fr Joy Francis wished them on behalf of the Province. The Superiors and formators of our Province attended the Plenary Assembly, as did other office bearers, friars, and student representatives from Philosophy and Theology Brothers. The meeting ended at 5:00 p.m. on November 23, 2022.

A nest for the missionaries!

September 27, 2022, is a day to be cherished for the Karnataka Goa Province as it inaugurated the newly built monastery ‘Carmel Sannidhi’ at Kadaganchi, Kalaburagi, a city famous for religious structures. The blessing of the monastery was done by Most Rev. Dr. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga, and Rev. Fr George Santhumayor, Provincial Superior of KG Province. After the blessing, the thanksgiving Holy Eucharist was presided over by the Bishop. Towards the conclusion of the mass, the Blessed Sacrament was installed at the monastery chapel by the Bishop. The spiritual celebration was followed by a stage programme where the contractor, engineers, labourers, and donors were honoured. After the programme, lunch was served to all. Province is grateful in a special way to all our friars serving in Canada who contributed a lion’s share for the construction of the monastery, friars in Australia, Vijayanagar and Hegde Nagar for their generous contributions.

‘Divya Sadan’ – A chamber of love!

On November 18, 2022, the K. G. Province inaugurated and blessed the new monastery ‘Divya Sadan’ at the capital city of Bengaluru. The inauguration was done by Rev. Fr George Santhumayor, Provincial Superior, by cutting the ribbon and Fr Charles Serrao conducted the prayer of blessing and blessed the monastery. The Eucharist was presided over by the Provincial. After the mass a short programme was conducted where the people responsible for the construction of the monastery were honoured. The Cloistered Nuns were thanked for donating the land to the Carmelites. Frs. Jovel Oliver and Roshan Monteiro are assigned residence at Divya Sadan. Both the friars are attached to the Sadbhavana community till the Provincial Chapter. As we thank God for his bountiful blessings and graces, we are grateful to all the friars and benefactors who have contributed towards the completion of the monastery. May Jesus be their reward.

Building lives, shaping the future!

On December 19, 2022, Mount Carmel School Shivamogga was officially inaugurated and blessed. The plaque was unveiled by Frs. Lawrence D’ Mello and Rev Fr. George Santhumayor, Provincial. Fr. Jerome Moras, Fr. George and the Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao, Bishop of Shimoga Bishop, cut the ribbon to officially inaugurate the brand-new school building. Later, the bishop blessed the structure at the prayer of blessing and Holy Water.
Along with the Bishop and the Provincial, Rev. Fr. Stany Dsouza, the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral and Dean of the Carmel Deanery, Rev. Fr. Deep Fernandes, Mr. Basavraj, the ECO of Shimoga, and Rev. Pastor P D Yesudas were all present on the dais for the stage programme that followed. Fr. Wilson D'Costa welcomed the guests with the assistance of the kids and staff, and Fr. Nelson Pinto officiated as the master of ceremonies.

Fr. Jerome acknowledged everyone present, especially the benefactors and well-wishers. He and the community friars were specially thanked by the Provincial, Bishop, and Mr. Basavraj for this new structure where children from all walks of life are given quality education. This was followed by the cultural programme by the students and the teachers. The KG province extends hearty congratulations and blessings on the friars of the Shivamogga community and prays for abundant blessings on them for their selfless service.

“Make me a servant, humble and meek.”

On October 5th, Br. Naveen Lobo was ordained deacon at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte. He was raised to the ranks of the clergy by Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore. His parents and siblings came all the way from Somwarpet, Kodagu. Fr Charles Serrao, superior of the Monastery recommended Dn Naveen as an able candidate, and the Bishop duly respected and declared him as a deacon. Fr Deep Fernandes clad the deacon with the dalmatic. In the evening, a short felicitation event was held. Fr Charles wished him success in his ministry. The KG Province congratulates Dn Naveen and accompanies him through their prayers.

Younger the blood, greater the vigour!

The Junior Priests’ Meet-2022 was held at Emmaus Wellness Centre- Mapusa from 19 to 22 September 2022. Frs. Regan D’Souza, Anthon Souz, Peter Pereira, Fantino Pereira, Wilson D’Costa, Nelson Cardoza, Wilson Tauro, Macson Dabre, Anoop Fernandes, Juze Souz, Ashwin Dsouza, Vishan Monis, Ashwath Dsouza, Adarsh Rodrigues, Ronald Pudthado, Jason Coutinho, Babush Rodrigues and Jignesh Solanki were the participants.

The meet was inaugurated by Fr Ronald Dsouza-Councillor in charge of formation, Fr Ivo Dias, Fr Praveen Dsouza, Fr Macson Dabre and Fr Babush Rodrigues. Fr Praveen took two sessions on Counselling skills and on the next day, Fr Provincial addressed the participants and encouraged them to be Discalced Carmelites Friars Today as men of prayer, fraternity, and communion. Thereafter, the sessions that followed were dedicated solely for sharing the experiences in their respective priestly ministry. On the last day picnic was organized at Resort Marina Dourado, Calangute.

Silver Bells ring to our 8 Friars!
Frs. John Baptist Pinto, Lancy Mendonca, Peter Rebello, Jacob C, Victor Fernandes (Jr), Rohan Miranda, Ligoury Crasta, and Deepak Thomas completed twenty-five fruitful years as religious in the garden of Carmel on December 14, 2022. The KG Province congratulates and felicitates them on their silver jubilee of Religious Profession, as well as recognizes their mighty contribution to the Province in various capacities. May our Heavenly Mother protect and guide them in their Carmelite life, and may all the Carmelite saints come to their assistance.

And the mission grows in abundance!
A very great milestone in the history of Carmelite Vicariate of Tanzania was marked on 6th of November 2022 through the inauguration of the Ruby Jubilee (40 years) of Carmelite presence in Tanzania. Rev. Fr Praveen Frank, the Regional Vicar together with Rev. Fr George Santhumayor, Provincial Superior, presided over the Eucharistic Celebration. At the beginning of the Eucharist, the Ruby Jubilee Logo was unveiled by Fr Provincial and Fr Vicar, and the Ruby Jubilee candle was lit by Frs. Sylvester Msemwa, Aureus Mwinuka, and Reginald Mworia together with Rev. Fr Praveen Frank, Regional Vicar. All the Parishes where our service is given were represented and brought a lot of offertory and gifts. It was a great gathering and joyful celebration. After the mass, there was the cutting of the Jubilee cake and agape.

Marian delight for the OCDS!

The OCDS Regional Gathering (Konkani) was held from October 23-24, at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Shanti Kiran, Bajjodi, Mangaluru. St Teresa of Avila Community, Bikarnakatte, hosted the event and its theme was Moriyechi sasai Carmel oddichi ghotai (Mother Mary protectress of Carmel).77 OCDS members from 8 Communities (Mira Road, Londa, Mysuru, Honnavar, Koteshwar, Bajjodi, Ryshivana, and Bikarnakatte) and 5 Spiritual Assistants participated in this meet. The gathering was opened on October 23 at 9:30 a.m. by the Delegate Provincial Rev. Fr Deep Fernandes. Fr Lawrence D’Cunha was the chief guest. On both days’ Marian themes were expounded by Fr Rudolph Pinto, Fr Deep and Dr Vandana D’Souza. An evening cultural presentation was held on the first day, during which each community exhibited its talents. Sports and a Marian quiz were held on the second day, and awards were given out. The OCDS Provincial Council President, Mr Sebastian Mendes, and Councillors – Mr Roy Rodrigues and Mrs Maria Christina were present.

A sight to behold – Release of Carmel Preran 2023

The seventh edition of Carmel Preran (Bible Diary) for the year 2023 was released on Oct 23 at Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill-Mangaluru by Bro Prakash D’Souza. Along with other former features, the new edition has a note on the noteworthy events of the day recognized in the country, the United Nations and the Vatican. Also, Very Rev. Fr Superior General Miguel Marquez Calle OCD released the Carmel Light 2023 at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the establishment of Carmelite Family of India held on Nov 13, 2022 at Mount Carmel Cultural Convention Center, Thiruvananthapuram-Kerala. Around 350 copies were distributed freely to all the participants of the celebrations.

The KG Province congratulates the dedication and commitment of Fr Stifan Perera in bringing out diaries in three languages. We request you to join hands with him in promoting these diaries to the people around us.

Sharing the joy of Christmas!

Dhyana Jyothi Trust run by the Carmelite Fathers and Good Sam Foundation run by David and Nelly Pichard jointly organized a Christmas celebration for the differently abled and visually impaired on Dec 18, 2022 at KROSS, Da Costa Layout, Bengaluru.

Kiran PB the Gold Medallist Police Inspector at Pulakeshinagar-Bengaluru and Rev Fr Richard Pais, the Director of KROSS delivered ennobling message on this occasion. Also, Christmas carols were sung in different languages and Santa Claus distributed Sweets. Fr. Stifan Perera, OCD the Director of Dhyana Jyothi Trust distributed blankets and other Christmas gifts to all those present. He also thanked all the donors.


OUR COMMUNITIES IN INDIA

  1. St Joseph’s Monastery, Mangalore
    Who is She Ascends So High? - The solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady and the 75th year of Independence of our country were celebrated on 15 August, in an ideal manner at Carmel Hill. After the solemn mass, the community along with the people honoured India by hoisting the National Flag. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Cyprian Monteiro, Joint Education Director, Government of Karnataka, who delivered the keynote address and also unfurled the flag.

    Done and Dusted -The fourth-year brothers (deacons) successfully answered their ‘Ad Auds’ exam on the 18th of August. On 22 and 30 September, they answered their comprehensive oral and written exams respectively. Having fulfilled the academic requirements, the five deacons left for their diaconate ministry to various destinations on 21 October. The rest of the brothers finished their semester exams on the 1 October.

    Happy Birthday, Mamma! - The Nativity of Our Lady was celebrated with the devotees by the offering of flowers on 8 September. At 11:30 a.m., the community had the traditional ‘Novem Jevann’ in the refectory which was decorated with flowers by the brothers. An assortment of tasty dishes was prepared and with joy all took part in the family meal!

    It’s Holiday Time – But Busy - The Brothers had their minor Holidays! To cool the exam-heated minds, they went for a two-day picnic to Wayanad and Kannur, Kerala on the 2ndand 3rdof October accompanied by Fr Lancy Lovis. From 7 - 9 October, the brothers had a thorough discursive study on the General Chapter Document “Being Discalced Carmelite Friars Today,” guided by Fr Oswald Crasta. Then two days “Shramadhana” was done by the brothers, cleaning the entire campus inside and out.

    Superior’s and Master’s Day - On 10 October, the birthdays of Fr Charles Serrao, the Superior, and Fr Lancy Lovis, the Master of Students, which was postponed was celebrated in the company of the communities of Ryshivana and Madanthyar. The brothers put up a modest programme and wished them well.

    All Roads Leading to Infant Jesus Shrine - From 24-26 October, a three-day retreat was organized by the Shrine. It was preached by Br Prakash and his team. The ground was packed with the retreatants and over 12 thousand people participated all three days in the retreat. All the days, the noon meal was served to the participants. It was a spiritual time and a divine scene; the grace flowing from the Most High. One couldn’t take off his eyes away from the praying faithful.

    Talents flow galore -After a long gap of two years, the community organized Carmel Day 2022 on the 10th of December at 5:45 PM. The president of this event was Rev. Fr George Santhumayor, the Provincial and the chief guest was the well-known dramatist Nellu Permannur. The event which spanned for a little over two hours and involved Acapella Singing, a retro-based dance and a musical piece encompassing an assortment of musical instruments. Mr. Nellu Permannur was honoured for his contribution to drama and he along with the Provincial released a book ‘Discourses on St. Joseph’ – a compendium of various themes on St. Joseph presented by the brothers in the past year. The star event of the evening was the drama titled “Zalle Bori Zatha” written by Fr JoCy Siddakatte and directed by Mr. Manish Derebail. The event received an overwhelming response with over 800 people being present along with nuns and priests from the vicinity and various communities.

  2. Ryshivana, Mangalore

    • The 15th academic year of the 8-month course was inaugurated on 5 August 2022 by Rev. Fr Deep Fernandes during the Solemn Eucharist.

    • On 15 August, the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence was celebrated by hoisting the flag by Rev. Dr. Mathew Vallatte, the former Vicar General of Bhopal Archdiocese.

    • The support staff of Ryshivana had a day out on 23 August 2022 to important locations in Mangaluru and Udupi.

    • On 1st September, the deanery meeting was held at Ryshivana. There was 100% attendance, and all enjoyed Carmelite Hospitality.

    • On September 8, Monti fest, Onam and Pongal were jointly celebrated with mouth-watering vegetarian delicacies that were followed by a cultural bonanza.

    • Fr Wilfred Rodrigues left for CITeS, Avila, Spain on 27th August 2022 to present a paper at the International Congress on St John of the Cross and Buddha to be held from August 29 to September 3, 2022. He reached safely India on 18th September 2022.

    • Fr Archibald Gonsalves, the Director was much in demand for retreats and talks on Synodality, Mariology and on Seminary Formation. Fr Joe Tauro drafted two more constitutions of the Nuns. While Fr Lancy Mendonca guided our formees in Mangalore and Madanthyar, Fr John Lobo added another hundred flower pots to our extended garden.

    • Finally, the prolonged ordeal for cooks came to a happy ending when a couple arrived from Madhya Pradesh. With 15 years of experience, the community now enjoys quality food.

    • During the Dussehra holidays, over two hundred retreatants enjoyed the serene environment at Ryshivana. Special thanks to St. Ann’s of Providence and the Salesian Sisters.

      Annual Day Celebrations - Ryshivana celebrated its annual Day on 22 November 2022. This event coincided with the Plenary Assembly of the KG Province. The Solemn Eucharist was celebrated by Rev Fr George Santhumayor, the Provincial. The participants of the Annual Certificate Course conducted a very meaningful liturgy. In the evening, at 7.00, there was a stage program, where the former Directors of Ryshivana Mr V.L. Rego, Fr Gregory D’Souza, Fr John Sequeira, Fr Pius James, Fr Alfred Menezes, and the present Director Fr Archibald Gonsalves were felicitated. The event was further solemnized by the silver jubilee of Fr Lancy Mendonca and the birthday of Fr Joe Tauro. The participants staged a colourful program. The Director Fr Archie thanked everyone for their continued support and congratulated the participants of the 15th batch of the Spiritual Renewal Course. Hundreds of priests, nuns, and lay people flock to Ryshivana for a God experience. Thanks to Fr John Lobo, the gardens of Ryshivana are a rare sight to behold.

      Triple treat at Ryshivana - On December 14, 2022 St. John of Cross OCDS community of Ryshivana, had triple celebrations: Patron's Feast, Annual Day and Christmas Celebration. Fr. Joe Tauro presided over the Solemn Holy Eucharist and delivered a meaningful homily. The OCDS members animated the liturgy and brought a variety of Kuswar for the offertory procession. After the Mass, all the Friars and OCDS members gathered in the hall for a cultural get-together marked by cake cutting, carols singing, a skit scripted by Fr. Nelson Pinto OCD, revealing Christmas friends and exchanging gifts. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves delivered a brief Christmas message, Mr. Paul D’Souza shared his experience of being an OCDS, Fr. John Lobo prayed the grace over the delicious meals that were cooked by the members in their homes. The entire event was planned and directed by the Spiritual Assistant Fr. Wilfred Rodrigues OCD.

  3. Carmel Nivas, Londa
    Mother India turns 75: The 75th Independence Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at the Parish, substations and Mount Carmel School, Ramnagar. Every student in the school had a flag in their hand. A special cultural programme was organized to mark the day.

    Mary, we honour you: The feast of the Nativity was celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and vigour in the parish. The community gathered at Mount Carmel Hostel for the traditional celebration of the feast.

    Feast of St Teresa of Avila: The feast was celebrated on Sunday 16, October 2022. Fr Joe D’Souza was the main celebrant. During the Mass, the OCDS were handed the Carmelite emblem.

    Special Welcome: 17th October, being the month dedicated to Our Lady, the Mount Carmel Hostel had the privilege of conducting the Rosary. The statue of our Lady was welcomed with a lot of honour and love. More than fifty people from the Ramnagar substation took part in the rosary.

    Deacon Arrives: Deacon Rakesh Parmar was accorded a warm welcome as he arrived for the Diaconate Ministry on the 21st of October 2022.

    Lights, lights, and more lights: The Feast of lights- Deepavali was celebrated on 22nd October at Mount Carmel School. The parents were thrilled to compete in the Rangoli competitions.

  4. Asha Deepa, Madanthyar

    • The celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady and Independence Day took place with great pomp and patriotism. After the Eucharistic Celebration, there was the hoisting of the National Flag by Mr. Valerian Rodrigues (Proprietor of Nuthan Cloth Centre, Madanthyar).

    • The celebration of Monthi Fest was celebrated with due solemnity and with a traditional pure vegetarian meal.

    • Belthangady Deanery level Jeevan Jyothi Camp for the youth held at Belthangady Parish from the 1st to the 4th of October was animated by Fr Aaron Babusha Rodrigues which was well appreciated. After this, he left for Mapusa, to attend the formators course at Emmaus wellness centre.

    • Our brothers have won prizes in various competitions conducted by the College.

      • Essay Competition – 3 brothers bagged the first prize and one secured the third prize;

      • Speech – 2 brothers got first prize, 2 brothers won second prize, and 2 brothers got the third prize;

      • Quiz Competition – 1 brother has bagged the first prize;

      • Finance management Competition (Conducted by the commerce club) – 1 brother has won the first prize and one more has secured the second prize.

    Asha Deepa is proud of our brothers for their versatile growth.

    Asha Deepa Seminary Day: The annual ASHA DEEPA DAY was held on December 4, 2022, at the seminary grounds. The President of the day was Rev. Fr George Santhumayor, Provincial Superior. Rev. Fr Basil Vas, the Parish Priest of Madanthyar, was the Chief Guest. The prayer song was followed by two inventive dances, a chorus in honour of St. Therese of Lisieux, and a musical piece performed by the young brothers. The brothers’ performance of Fr Nelson Pinto OCD’s drama ‘Jillibaiecho Shermanv’ was the icing on the cake. The complete program was well-organized, and the Brothers worked hard to bring out their hidden talents on stage. The KG Province congratulates these little brothers for their outstanding performance and continues to pray for them as they continue their journey in Carmel.

  5. St. John the Baptist Church Community, Vijayanagar

    • On August 15th, all those who celebrated 75 years of their birth hoisted the national flag on the Independence Day of India.

    • On August 28th, the titular feast of the parish was celebrated by conducting various competitions for our parishioners. Rangoli competition was the attraction of the day.

    • On September 8th, Monti feast was celebrated by the Konkani group and Onam was celebrated by the Malayali community.

    • On September 11th, Girl child day was celebrated and a talk on child abuse, and health care was arranged. Food was served to all the children.

    • On September 25th, Vincent de Paul Society celebrated their founders’ day. Educational help was given to 9 families. Ration was distributed to 15 families. Breakfast was served to adopted families and a loving meal was shared with community fathers.

    • On September 25th, Catholic Association organized De-addiction and counselling awareness program for the parishioners in cooperation with TREDA Bangalore-a unit of Carmelaram OCD fathers.

    • On October 23rd, St. Christopher’s day was celebrated by the youth. Vehicles were also blessed.

    • On October 30th, Catechism children organized Mission activities like food stalls, games, auction of rooster, honey, juice, banana etc.

    • On October 31st, the last day of the Rosary month, a creative Rosary was conducted by the women association. The altar servers went out to Ikea mall and Cubbon Park for an outing.

  6. Dhyanavana, Mysuru
    Institution Day / Talents Day:
    On the 25th of September, the Dhyanavana community celebrated ‘Dhyanavana Day.’ The celebration of the Holy Eucharist was an occasion to thank the Lord for His blessings on our Institution. In view of this, different competitions were organized. It was a wonderful opportunity for our sisters to bring out their hidden talents. The colourful cultural evening added beauty to the celebration. The winners were awarded prizes and the best Group was presented with a Trophy.
     
    Excursion to Kushalnagara: On the 15th of October, the students spent the entire day in Kushalnagara. In the morning, they visited the Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua, Doranahalli. After this, they headed towards the Buddhist Golden Temple at Bylakuppe and thereafter had lunch at Tapovana, relishing the hospitality of our Novitiate house. In the post-noon session, they enjoyed the cynic beauty of Nisarga Dhama.

    Festival of Lights: On the 29th of October, the community joined the nation in the celebration of Deepavali. The day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in Hindi, presided over by Fr Dominic Vas. The Indian dishes and North Indian delicacies were menu for lunch. A meaningful prayer service was organized in the evening with Diyas. The cultural evening saw some exquisite depictions of Nepali folklore organized by our Cluny Sisters. Our fathers were honoured with Tilak, Arathi, fruits, flowers, and songs, typical Nepali customs and heritage.

  7. Carmel Bhavan, Huvina Hadagali
    Social Works at Hadagali:

    • On August 2nd, Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust Distributed Blankets to the poor families of Kayaka Nagar.

    • On August 9th, tailoring certificates were distributed to 17 candidates after the completion of 6 months at Basralli Thanda.

    • On August 12th, Tailoring Certificates were distributed to the 21 Candidates at Kalvi Thanda.

    • On October 17th, Tailoring Certificates were distributed to the 25 Candidates who had completed 6 months of tailoring Course at Mudenur Village.

    Infant Jesus Parish:

    • On the 11th of September, Monthi Fest was celebrated at Infant Jesus Church, Huvina Hadagali. Fr William Miranda was the main celebrant. After the Eucharistic Celebration, he was honoured for his great service in Social Work. All the parishioners appreciated him for getting Bharathiya Seva Rathna award.

    Mount Carmel School, Hadagali:

    • The 75th Independence Day was celebrated on the 15th of August at Mt. Carmel School and cultural activities were presented by the students. Exhibition on various subjects was also showcased.

    • On the 3rd of October, the school arranged a one-day picnic for the teaching and non-teaching staff under the leadership of Fr Vijay Victor Pais.

    • On October 14 and 15, Sports day was held.
      New Member: On the 22nd of October, the Community joyfully welcomed Dn Kiran Lobo OCD as our new member.

  8. Prerana, Jagalur

    • Independence Day celebrations: Independence Day was celebrated in the Prerana Social centre on 15-08-2022 Fr William Miranda hoisted the flag. Manjunath Guruji and his team of Tapassu trust, Carmel garments members and others were present.

    • Noble deeds recognized: Bharthiya Seva Rathna award was given to Fr William Miranda by Global Scholars foundation for lifetime achievement in social work on 28-08-2022 at Pune. The award was handed over by Padmashri awardee Smt. Padmaja Reddy.

    List of Social undertakings done:

    • Garbha Sanskara for pregnant women and future mothers was organized at Bangarakkana gudda on 16-08-2022. Dr. Swetha Belagere and Mr. Manjunath Guruji were the resource persons of the day. 22 women participated in the camp.

    • On 01-09-2022, the follow-up camp for those who got operated on for cataracts was held. Ophthalmologist Mr. Shivu Kumar and his team from M.R.T. Rural eye hospital Kondlahalli conducted the proceedings. All the patients were checked for their operated eyes and were given spectacles.

    • Free Ration to the inmates of Sudhama dying destitute, Amaravathi, was given by Prerana Social centre, Jagalur on 04-09-2022. In order to support them, Ration, Onion, Soaps, washing powder, and toothpaste, toothbrushes etc were given.

    • On 23-09-2022, Scouts and guides of Jagalur taluka had one-day input program in Prerana Social centre. Fr William Miranda inaugurated the program. Mr. Manjunath Sahukar, a teacher from the Government High school was the main resource person of the day. 80 Children were present.

    • Free distribution of 5280 cashew plants for the farmers of Jagalur was held in Prerana on 28-09-2022 collaborating with Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala rural development B.C. trust Jagalur.

    • An Eye check-up camp in Bommakkanahalli was organized on 29-09-2022. Famous eye surgeon Dr Nagaraj and his team from M.R.T. rural eye hospital Kondlahalli did the screening. Dr Nagaraj along with Fr William inaugurated the camp. Dr Aravind P.S, N.S.S officer Mr. Ningappa were the chief guests. More than one hundred people benefitted from the camp.

    • On 30-09-2022, a tailoring training centre was inaugurated in Bisthuhalli. Fr William inaugurated the training centre. Fr Vishan Monis, Fr Ronald, Mr. Tippeswamy, Aravind P.S, M.D. Rakheeb Mrs. Manjula tailoring teacher, were present. 43 rural women are having their training in three batches.

    • On 10-10-2022, two days camp for rural children was organized in Prerana Hall with the collaboration of Don Bosco Davanagere. 150 children participated in the camp and the Rights of children, leadership quality, games, drawing, and action songs were taught.

  9. Carmel Home, Belur

    • On the 29th of September, St. Michael, the Archangel Parish’s Annual Feast was celebrated. Fr Archibald Gonsalves presided over the holy Eucharist along with 25 concelebrants and 400 faithful.

    • Dn. Naveen Lobo arrived at Carmel Home Community on the 21st of October.

    • On the 28th, Mount Carmel School Boys won the district-level Runner up trophy in the Kabbadi match, held at Malnad Academy Channaraya Pattana.

    • Fr Sandeep Won 3 Gold medals in 100 Meter Running race, Long Jump, and Shot-put at Hassan Rajeev College. He has also received a Championship trophy for overall activities.

  10. Carmel Sannidhi, Kadaganchi

    • Tapping natural resources- the monastery installed a solar system for its electrical requirements and also street lights around the campus.

  11. St Mary’s Church, Hegde Nagar
    A well-needed facelift:
    A lot of renovation of work of the parish at St. Mary’s church has taken place during these days especially painting of the entire church, levelling of the church ground, laying of interlocks in front of the church, electrical works, new benches for the church, polishing of the benches and a new L.E.D board at the entrance of the church to indicate the mass timings is installed.

    Feast of nativity of Mother Mary and the feast of the family:
    The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated on the 8th of September 2022. The children participated with enthusiasm in the novena masses. The new harvest was blessed followed by the offering of flowers. Fr Sunil Monis was the main celebrant of the mass.

    Annual feast St. Mary’s church Hegde Nagar:
    The Annual feast of the parish was solemnized this year with great pomp and gaiety on 9th October 2022. In preparation for the feast, there was a triduum with a special Rosary and reflection on Marian devotion. The festal mass was solemnized by Fr Archibald Gonsalves. Three different language masses were celebrated on the feast day. A large crowd participated in the holy Eucharistic celebration. In the evening after the solemn mass, a car procession around the church was taken and a large number of people participated in the procession followed by Eucharist adoration.

  12. Stella Maris, Matadakeri, Honnavar
    August 15th 2022: Independence Day and the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary were celebrated. Fr Peter D’sa was the main celebrant for the solemn Eucharist. After the Holy Eucharist, Independence Day Programme was organized jointly with Government Lower Primary School, Matadakeri. Frs. Peter D’Sa and Fr Suresh Saldanha were the Chief guests for the Programme and hoisted the flag along with the Headmistress of the School.

    The Blessing of the newly erected Cross Grotto near Matadakeri Highway was held on the same day. Mrs. Helen D’Souza along with community fathers inaugurated the grotto. Fr Suresh Saldanha conducted the rite of the blessing of the grotto. After the blessings, Mrs. Helen D’Souza was felicitated for donating the land for the construction of the Grotto. Others were also felicitated for their contribution towards the construction of the Grotto.

    August 19th 2022:
    Charismatic Retreat was organized from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Fr Pius D’Souza, a well-known charismatic preacher from Shimoga Diocese preached the retreat. It was mainly organized for the youths and families. Fr Juze Anthon D’Souza kept the congregation lively and active through his action songs and praise and worship. For the Eucharistic celebration, Fr Wilson Fernandes, Parish Priest from Manaki, Kumta was the main celebrant. There were around 500 people participated in the retreat. Mr. Alban Fernandes, Musician helped the congregation to participate well in the retreat through his music and singing. Vegetarian Meal was served to all the participants.

    August 28th 2022:
    St Monica women association of our Parish organized competitions for women in view of their patron St Monica’s feast on August 26. They conducted group-wise competitions. There were mainly four events as Fancy-Dress Competition, a singing competition, a dance competition, and a rangoli competition. Sr Nancy CSST and Sr Mable Mary SRA were the judges for the competitions. St Joseph’s Men association members cooked and served meals for all the parishioners.

    August 30th 2022:
    Novenas started for the preparation of the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. After the Holy Eucharist, children offered flowers for Mother Mary. The ICYM youth exhibited their talents by performing skits and giving beautiful messages on the daily novena themes. Sweets were distributed during the novenas.

    September 5th 2022: Teachers’ Day was celebrated at St Sebastian Church, Matadakeri. After the Holy Eucharist, teachers of our parish were felicitated for their hard work and commitment in educating the children.

    September 8th 2022:
    The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary began with the blessing of the new harvest at the Grotto near Matadakeri Highway Road. Infant Mary’s statue was taken in procession from the Grotto to the Church while flowers were offered near the Church veranda. Fr Peter D’sa was the main celebrant for the solemn Eucharist. After the mass, sweets were distributed. In the evening, Youths organized ‘Housie housie’ games, youths and children’s club performed some dances and the prizes were distributed.

    September 16th 2022:
    Charismatic Retreat was organized especially for married couples from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Fr Alban D’Souza, a well-known charismatic preacher from Udupi Diocese preached a beautiful retreat. For the Eucharistic celebration, Fr Salvadore Rodrigues, Honnavar was the main celebrant. Around 470 people participated in the retreat. The meal was served to all the participants.

    October 4th & 5th 2022:
    Charismatic Retreat was organized for two days from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. ‘Yesu Sparsha’ charismatic group preached the retreat. Fr Franklin D’Souza and team conducted prayer sessions, praise and worship. Fr Wilson Noronha was the main celebrant for the Eucharistic celebration. Around 2000 people participated on the first day and around 2700 people participated on the second day of the retreat. The meal was served to all the participants.

    October 16th 2022: Regional Youth Cross of the Karwar Diocese arrived at Matadakeri on October 16th2022. Fr Peter D’Sa along with the youth president received the cross and honoured it and all the people welcomed the cross with devotion near Cross grotto, Matadakeri Highway. The Holy Cross was then carried from the Cross grotto to the St Sebastian Church where it was kept for adoration.

    October 30th 2022:
    Mission Sunday was celebrated in our Parish. Fr Peter D’Sa celebrated the Holy Eucharist and Fr Suresh preached a beautiful homily highlighting the importance of Mission Sunday. After the Holy Eucharist, the offerings which people brought were auctioned.

  13. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Talegaon

    • The Community renovated the recreation room and guest rooms with the renovation mainly consisting of filling up gaps in the walls and painting the walls.

    • A new sound system was installed in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with the help of generous benefactors and parishioners.

  14. Pushpanjali, Gorwa, Vadodara

    • On 4-9-2022, in preparation for the Nativity of our Lady, the community organized a drawing competition for children and youth of our parish.

    • On 9-10-2022, the community organized a free Medical Health Check-up Camp in collaboration with Zydus hospital. Many people took the opportunity for their health check-ups.

    • From 12 to 26 October, the wall construction, storehouse and gate work at our Undhera property was done.

    • On 27-28 October, the community organized a Vocation Camp. There were five candidates.

  15. Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi
    Family Feast Sep. 8th:
    The Parish family joined together at 5.30 pm in the Parish Hall for a celebration as a community. Prayers in different languages were offered to show unity in the parish as parishioners of various lingual backgrounds were present. Sweet vorn with new corn was blessed and then distributed to all those present. Games were conducted. Children and Youth entertained everyone with beautiful dance performances. There was a performance of age-old Gumta songs that brought back memories of our ancestors.

    Day of the Elderly: Family Commission of Infant Mary Parish, Bajjodi celebrated ‘Day for the Elderly’ with a theme ‘Young at Heart’ on 16th October 2022. The day commenced with the celebration of Holy Eucharist where 89 Elders of the parish participated. There was a special prayer service and anointing for all the elders at the end of the Mass. Dr. Almeida gave an informative talk on health-related issues that the elders face in general and their remedies. Few games were conducted wherein elders took an active part.

    Colouring Competition & Eco-Friendly Workshop: "A creative mind can make art out of anything". To encourage creativity in children, a colouring competition was held at Infant Mary Parish Hall followed by an Eco-friendly workshop on October 30th. More than 70 children participated. Mr Jayaprakash Ekkur was the Resource Person, who motivated the children into making seed paper pens from used paper. The workshop was a success as all the children enthusiastically participated.

    SPARKLE 2K22: A unique one-day camp by the Bajjodi ICYM unit for children of classes 1 to PUC on the occasion of Children’s Day on 6th November. Actions songs and ice breaker sessions were held followed by a Talk regarding Personality Development, Mental Health Problems in Adolescents, etc. by Resource Person Mrs. Rikitha Pais. An interactive session was taken up post lunch by Mrs Vandana Dsouza on Friendship and Peer Pressure followed by a Treasure hunt. Around 100 enthusiastic children participated in this camp.

    Bajjodi Football Cup 2k22’ organized by ICYM Bajjodi: An Inter parish Football Tournament - ‘Bajjodi Football Cup 2k22’ on October 23, 2022, at City Arena Kodialguttu. Teams from 25 Parishes participated in the Football Match. ‘Bendur Titans’ emerged Winners of Bajjodi Football Cup/2k22.

    Infant Mary Parish Sports Meet:
    The Annual sports meet of Infant Mary Parish was organized on Sunday, December 4th 2022 at Padua School Grounds. Fr Rovel Dsouza, Shrine Director, Infant Jesus Shrine, the Chief Guest the day, hoisted the flag which was followed by the March Past. Teams of ten wards participated and marched to the tune of the band. They were all dressed in colourful uniforms adding uniqueness and vibrancy to the ground. 14 games were held for all age groups. Everyone participated in the games with joy and enthusiasm.

  16. Pushpashrama, Mysuru
    Training the Trainers:
    Pushpashrama’s long tradition of conducting the annual program for all the school teachers of Mysore was relaunched once again after a gap of several years under the title, “New Paradigms in Education: Challenges and Prospects.” The program was inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. K. Antony William, the Bishop of Mysore. Dr. Lancy D’Souza, Professor and HOD for the Department of Psychology, University of Mysore and Dr. Sujatha B. Hanchinalkar, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Regional Institute of Education, and NCERT Mysore were the Main speakers for the Day. They highlighted the post-pandemic scenario of education and its problems on one hand and how new paradigms including NEP are a way ahead in the changing situations of our education system.

    Happy Birthday Mamma Mary: When it comes to Marian celebrations, Pushpashrama holds close to its heart some of its strongest and unbreakable Marian traditions especially the ‘Monthi Fest.’ Besides the eight days’ novena and offering of flowers at the grotto, this year brothers prepared 62 varieties of vegetarian dishes combining the feasts of Onam and Pongal in one eventful celebration.

    Little Flower our Patroness: October First was a red-letter day in the annals of Pushpashrama where all the roads of the city of Mysore led to this place. Most Rev. Dr. K. Antony William, the Bishop of Mysore presided over the concelebrated High Mass. More than two hundred religious and priests belonging to the Diocese of Mysore participated in the festal celebrations ending with a delicious monastic meal.

    Hurray! Viva Padre Generale:
    It was a most joyful day for the Pushpashrama community to welcome our newly elected Fr. General to the community on the 11th of October 2022. He was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Pius James, Definitor General and Rev. Fr. George Santhumayor, our Provincial Superior. They were warmly welcomed at the main entrance gate, taking them into procession into the Shrine of Infant Jesus. Fr. Rector welcomed them all and introduced Fr. General to the community. Fr. General met the students and staff separately. The visit culminated with the eucharistic celebration at 12-00 pm followed by Community Lunch.

    Parking Beauty:
    The long desire of laying pavements to the shrine parking area finally saw its fulfillment on the first week of December. Around twelve thousand square feet area was interlocked with the special hydraulic compressed pavements. Special thanks to Fr. Rudolf D’Souza for his partial help in realizing this plan and the remaining money was collected from the well-wishers of the Shrine of Infant Jesus, Pushpashrama.

    A Child is Born to Us:
    Christmas celebrations always bring new vigor and energy to Pushpashrama. This year in line with the Little Flower Centenary theme, “My Vocation is Love” the brothers have put together the best of their creative ability, bringing forth one of the finest cribs in Mysore. Together with the usual illumination, Pushpashrama is a heavenly abode to the onlookers. This year the midnight mass was packed with an unusual crowd who beheld Pushpashrama in its celestial beauty.

  17. Emmaus Wellness Centre, Mapusa
    An inner healing workshop
    was organized from 6th to 10th September 2022 which was attended by 12 participants. This workshop focused mainly on the emotional wounds of childhood affecting adult behavior. The workshop introduced different psycho-spiritual interventions to heal emotional wounds.

    Formator’s Formation, a special course for formators was organized at Emmaus from 3rd October to 30 October 2022. It was participated by 12 Formators. Eleven from India and one from Africa. The course dealt with the following topics: Formation as Accompaniment, Formation as Transformation, Psychology of Character Formation, Psychological Issues in Formation, Formation for Celibate life, Counselling skills in Formation, and Assessment of the Formees. The course was well appreciated by the participants.

    Contemplative Retreats: Back-to-back two contemplative retreats were organized from November 1st to 12th for CCR sisters, as well as Ursuline Franciscan sisters.

OUR COMMUNITIES ABROAD

  1. Santa Maria Della Scala, Rome
    With the start of a new academic year in the European Universities in the last week of September, the community too resumed its apostolate of providing a conducive atmosphere to priests pursuing studies at Rome. This year, apart from the conventuals, there are 10 student priests of various nationalities (India, Tanzania, Gabon, Nigeria, and Poland) residing in Santa Maria Della Scala, including 3 Carmelites of our own Province – Frs. Manoj Braganza, Noel D Cunha, and Raymond Sangu (Tanzania).

    The celebration of the feast of St Teresa of Avila on October 15 was exceptionally grand this year. The solemn Eucharistic celebration had an exceptionally large gathering of devotees; Rev. Fr Johannes Gorantla, the Rector of Seminarium Missionum, presided over the celebration. That same evening, there was a concert performed by Sig. Andrea Panfili, rendering classical pieces on the majestic church organ, and applauded by a packed audience.

  2. Santa Maria a Ripa, Empoli, Italy
    Addio E Benvenuto (Farewell and Welcome): On September 10th, 2022 the Parish organized a farewell dinner for Fr Manoj Braganza, the parish priest for the past six years, and a welcome meal for Fr Roshan Lobo, the new Parish Priest. There were 200 people in the parish and surrounding parishes. The Parish council director, parishioners, dean of the vicariate, and the civil authorities thanked Fr Manoj for his service and assured their support to Fr Roshan Lobo.

    Festa Della Comunità Parrocchiale (Parish Community Feast):
    Santa Maria celebrated the feast of the parish community on 02 October 2022. The Solemn Mass was celebrated by the Newly Ordained priest, Fr Maximilien Baldi, who was a catechism teacher of our Parish. Mass was followed by a procession of the statue of Mother Mary, venerated in Santa Maria. Hundreds of people participated in the procession. On this day Fr Roshan Lobo officially became the Parochial administrator of Santa Maria a Ripa Empoli.

    Monthi fest celebrated at Empoli:
    On the 7th of September, members of different communities in Rome and Lucca, Milan joined with the Empoli community to celebrate the Monthi fest. Fr Provincial who was visiting the friars in Europe celebrated the Holy Eucharist and Fr Wilfred Rodrigues prayed grace over the meal in Konkani.

    Carmel Fraternity for Christmas at Empoli:
    The Carmelite friars of the Karnataka-Goa Province (including the Vicariate of Tanzania) in Italy stayed faithful to the long-standing tradition of celebrating their fraternity at Christmas, by gathering together at Empoli on December 28. A total of 12 fathers and 4 brothers serving and/or studying in various parts of Italy were present with some coming a day earlier to help with the arrangements. Rev. Fr Pius D’Souza, the Definitor General, also graced the occasion with his presence. The celebration formally began with the mass at noon. Fr Ambrose D’Souza, in honour of his 50 years of life, presided over it, while Fr Raymond Sangu, the latest arrival to Italy, shared an inspiring reflection. The brothers elevated the liturgy with their singing.

    A sumptuous lunch followed, prepared under the guidance of Frs. Roshan and Elias, and accompanied by Frs. Ambrose, Ajith, and Selva. The meal table reverberated with the sounds of laughter and camaraderie characteristic of a vibrant fraternal communion. All those who celebrated or were to celebrate birthdays and ordination anniversaries were felicitated with a cake cut in their honour. Each one also shared the experience of their life in Italy and looked forward to the future with hope. The meal concluded with a word of sincere gratitude to the community of Empoli for hosting the gathering. Once again, all the friars put their hands together to put everything in order, before some who had to return to their respective ministries began saying their goodbyes. It was a day to remember that gave each one a sense of home away from home. May the Christ Child continue to strengthen this beautiful bond of fraternity in Carmel.

  3. St. Mary/ St. Ann Parish Hagersville
    On October 16th at St. Ann’s Parish Walpole, Bishop Gerald Bergie installed and blessed the new Tabernacle in the Church. In the afternoon on the same day at 2 pm in St. Mary’s Hagersville, the Catholic Women League conducted the living Rosary. Fr Vincent, Fr Jerome, the CWL of St. Patrick, Caledonia, and the CWL of St. Stephen Cayuga participated, and thereafter joined the social gathering.

  4. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Community – Kamloops – Canada

    • The members of this community consist of Frs. Rudolf, Jaison, and Rajesh. Fr Rudolf arrived at Kamloops on June 30th 2022, and Fr Rajesh arrived on July 14th from Carmel Hill, North Deroche. Fr Rajesh was appointed as pastor at our Lady of perpetual help parish and was officially installed as pastor on July 18th 2022.

    • Fr Rudolf gave a seminar to more than 250 people gathered in the parish centre on September 10th. The theme of the Conference was “The Revival and Rediscovering Spiritual Life after Covid”. Kamloops Catholic Women’s League has their regular meetings in our parish, and they contribute to pastoral assistance to ministries in the parish. On October 29ththey had a whole-day retreat cum seminar on Finding Joy in Daily Life conducted by Fr Rudolf.

    • On July 27th the birthday of Fr Rudolf was celebrated with a gathering of all three friars in a restaurant. On August 23rd the birthday of Fr Rajesh was celebrated in downtown Kamloops with a short picnic and dinner. On October 24th all three friars travelled to Carmel Hill to celebrate the birthday of Fr Mario.

    • The community members from Vancouver too were present for the event. On November 1st, we celebrated the feast of all saints at St. John Mary Vianney Parish.

  5. St Patrick Community Caledonia, Canada
    Welcome to Canada Fr Sunil Dsouza:
    All the Friars from Ontario gathered at St Aloysius Church Kitchener on October 24th, 2022 to welcome Fr Sunil Dsouza. Fr Jerome Mascarenhas the regional Co-Ordinator officially extended a cordial welcome to Fr Sunil.

    Come and dine with us:
    St Patrick’s Church organized a social potluck on October 23rd to celebrate the beautiful fall season. Around 45 people gathered in the Church Hall to taste different types of food. The Church Hall was well decorated by the parishioners to have a glimpse of the fall season.

  6. Benoni, South Africa
    Love for Nature:
    “The burning bush; Listen to the voice of creation,” with this theme a month of care for creation–awareness month was observed at Carmel Parish, Benoni. At every Mass, according to the reflections from the Papal Document, various aspects of nature and man’s role in its preservation were considered. Donations enabled the purchase of twenty plants to beautify the Carmel Prayer Garden.

    OCDS and New Carmelites:
    On the Feast Day of St Teresa of Avila, six people expressed their desire to join the OCDS and have joined the initial formation. One member, Mrs. Kathy Peters made her First Promises at Mass celebrated by Fr Alveros, a Carmelite Missionary from Spain.

    New Constructions:
    The construction of a Guard House at the entrance gate of our Monastery at Benoni and a few toilets at the Carmel Prayer Garden are in progress. Fr Arvin Tauro blessed the site on 30 September 2022. As several people are visiting the prayer garden these facilities are appreciated by all.

    The Springs of Carmel 2023:
    Bible Diary for Southern Africa, the 6th year of its publication, was launched on 23 October. These diaries are unique as they are specifically published for Southern African Countries.

  7. Our Lady of Loreto Church, Kempton Park, South Africa.
    Spring day celebration:
    As spring was arriving, the parishioners geared up to welcome spring uniquely. It was on the first Sunday of September; the celebration was held at the parish. It began with Holy Eucharist followed by a cultural program. Various games were organized specially for children and other entertainments like dance by men and women.

    Heritage Day:
    Heritage Day was celebrated at the parish on the 25th of September. It began with the Holy Eucharist with a grand procession into the church by the leaders of different countries. Everyone came with their cultural attire and the church looked colourful. Since the community is diverse with many cultures, languages, nationalities, and colours, it was a day to exhibit our unity in diversity. After the mass, there was a cultural program. Each community cooked it’s kind of food. There was a dance from different communities depicting their culture.

    Rosary for South Africa:
    On the 15th of October parishioners gathered to pray the Rosary under the title, "South Africa Needs Mother Mary." It began with the mass of the Solemnity of St. Teresa of Avila. After the Mass, there was a procession held with the statue of Mother Mary and with banners by different sodalities outside the church in the open place to pray the Rosary.

  8. Australia (Oceania)
    First Holy Communion: 85 Children received Jesus for the first time on Corpus Christi Feast. The Sacrament of First Holy Communion was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Parish, Coffs Harbour and St. Francis Xavier Church, Woolgoolga. Families and friends of our children joined for refreshments after the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration.

    Sacrament of Confirmation:
    110 children were confirmed by Bishop Gregory Homeming in two batches on the Feast of Pentecost. Fr Joy D’Souza OCD and Fr Peter Rebello OCD distributed certificates for the children confirmed while congratulating parents and their sponsors for supporting their children in matters of faith.

    Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel:
    Parish Community joined in celebrating the solemn feast. Fr Joe D’Souza OCD (Parish Administrator) Celebrated the Solemn Mass, and Fr Joy D’Souza OCD broke the Word. Fr Peter Rebello OCD celebrated Holy Mass for the Cloistered Carmel Sisters at Lismore.

    Annual Retreat:
    The Diocese of Lismore organized an annual retreat for the clergy from the 25 to the 29 of July which was attended by Carmelite friars of Coffs Harbour.

    New Website:
    New website of the Parish was published online on 15 August 2022. The website was designed by Fr Joy D’Souza OCD.

    Feast of Nativity of Our Lady:
    Solemn Eucharistic Celebration was celebrated by Fr Peter Rebello OCD at Good Shepperd Church, Sydney for the Konkani Catholic association, Sydney, as they celebrated Monti Fest. About 350 faithful joined the solemn celebration followed by a Cultural event.

    Volunteer’s Thanksgiving/Fr Joy’s Birthday:
    90 Volunteers and Parishioners joined in celebrating Volunteers Day and Fr Joy’s Birthday. During the thanksgiving Mass, an inspiring homily was preached by Fr Peter Rebello OCD. It was followed by a dinner organized by the parish.

    Junior Youth Group:
    Fr Joy D’Souza OCD in collaboration with school and Parish volunteers. inaugurated a junior youth group for children aged 8-9 in view of giving them spiritual input.

OUR CLOISTERED CARMEL NUNS

  1. Federation of our Lady of Mount Carmel
    A Psycho-Spiritual Course for the Junior Sisters:
    With a constant emphasis on good formation at all meetings, Pastoral Visitations, etc., the Federation of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, India organized a Psycho-Spiritual Integration Course for its junior Sisters. It was hosted by the Karnataka-Goa Province at its Provincial House, Sadbhavana, Bangalore, from October 19 to November 18, 2022. 18 Sisters from the Carmels of Bengaluru, Chicalim, Hassan, Kurnool, Mangalore, Mysuru, Pune, and Vadodara participated. Fr Ronald D’Souza OCD chalked out the programme together with Fr Alwyn Sequeira OCD. Dr. Lavina Noronha and Fr Regan D’Souza OCD were the other two resource persons. The resource persons gave their quality time to each of the sisters. On November 17th the Sisters met Rev. Fr Charles Serrao, the Religious Assistant of the Federation. In the evening, the Sisters put up a small programme for the friars. Rev. Fr George Santhumayor, Provincial, celebrated the thanksgiving Eucharist on the 18th after which the Sisters left for their respective Carmels. May this month-long experience enable our Sisters to truly become true reflections of JESUS in the world.

  2. Bangalore Carmel
    Esteemed Guests:
    From October 6 - 8, the Carmel had the pastoral visitation by Rev. Father Provincial and Mother Anna, the Federal President and on the 15th of October, Very Rev. Fr General, Definitor Fr Pius James D’Souza, our Fr Provincial, and Fr Vinod Lobo paid a short visit to our Carmel.

  3. Vadodara Carmel
    First Profession:
    October 15, is always a solemnity in Carmel and at Prem Jyot Carmel, Vadodara there was an added significant occasion – the first profession of their novice Sr. Sandhya Mary of St. Joseph. Hailing from the state of Andhra Pradesh, Sister was fortunate to have 2 priests from there. Fr Jignesh represented Carmelite priests.

    A ‘Come and See’ in time!
    As 3 juniors with Prioress Mother Anna left the Carmel for Sadbhavana, Bangalore, the Lord in His gracious manner brought in just at this time, an aspirant for ‘Come and See,’ a local vocation named Sainika who entered on October 10, 2022. JESUS be praised for His marvellous works always!

    Apostolic Nuncio’s Visit:
    The community was extremely blessed to have the visit of the Apostolic Nuncio Abp. Leopoldo Girelli together with Archbishop Stanislaus Fernandes, the Apostolic Administrator of the diocese, and Fr Stephen Fernandes on November 13, 2022.

  4. Raipur Carmel
    The election of Raipur Carmel was held on the 6th of November 2022 and the results are as follows:
     Prioress: Sr. Elizabeth of the Trinity
     First Councillor: Sr. Carmel Anne of the Sacred Heart
     Second Councillor: Sr. Jane Mary of Jesus
     Third Councillor: Sr. Usha Mary of the Sacred Heart

  5. Bunda Carmel
    The election of Bunda Carmel was held on 20th November 2022 and the results are as follows:
     Prioress: Sr. Celine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
     First Councillor: Sr. Eliza of St. John of the Cross
     Second Councillor: Sr. Nirmala Therese of the Blessed Trinity
    While we congratulate Raipur and Bunda sisters, we offer our prayers for their intentions.

  6. Mangalore Carmel
    Sr Therese Marie commits herself to JESUS in CARMEL:
    On October 1, 2022, Sr Therese Marie of Divine Mercy made her solemn profession at Mangalore Carmel. The Eucharist was presided over by the Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore. Fr George Santhumayor, Provincial of KG Province, preached an inspiring homily. There were 14 priests and a large number of religious and laity attended the profession mass. Sr Therese Marie made her solemn profession in the hands of Sr Mary Mabel, Prioress of Mangalore Carmel. Sr Therese Marie is from Saripalla, Kulshekar. Her profession has brought joy and delight to the Carmelite Order. The KG Province congratulates Sr Therese Marie and prays for her.
