Silver Jubilee Celebration of Sr. Sophie
Therese, OCD
The Cloistered Carmel Sisters of Mangalore rejoiced in gratitude to
God as they celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Religious Profession of
Sr. Sophie Therese, OCD, on October 4, 2025. The day was marked by
deep spiritual joy and heartfelt thanksgiving for twenty-five years
of consecrated life in the service of the Lord.
The celebration began with a Solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided
over by Most Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop Emeritus of
Mangalore, and concelebrated by six priests. The atmosphere was
filled with reverence and joy as the community joined in thanking
God for the fidelity and grace bestowed upon Sr. Sophie Therese
throughout her journey of commitment and love.
The homily was preached by Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, OCD, Vicar
Provincial, who reflected meaningfully on God’s faithfulness in
spite of our unfaithfulness and unworthiness. He invited all present
to ponder the mystery of divine mercy that sustains every vocation,
and to rejoice in the quiet yet powerful witness of contemplative
life within the Church.
Fr. Ashwath D’Souza, OCD, gracefully compered the celebration,
ensuring a prayerful and well-coordinated flow of the liturgy.
Following the Eucharist, the community gathered in the parlour for a
joyful cake-cutting ceremony and a photo session, capturing moments
of happiness and fraternity. The celebration concluded with a
fellowship meal, shared in an atmosphere of warmth and thanksgiving.
Members of Sr. Sophie Therese’s family also joined the sisters,
adding a touch of familial joy to the occasion.
Indeed, the day was a memorable and grace-filled celebration, marked
by simplicity, joy, and gratitude to the Lord for the gift of a life
dedicated to prayer, sacrifice, and love within the heart of the
Church.
