OCDS Regional Gathering
The OCDS Regional Gathering (Konkani) was held from
October 23-24, at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre,
Shanti Kiran, Bajjodi, Mangaluru. St Teresa of Avila
Community, Bikarnakatte, hosted the event. The theme
Moriyechi sasai Carmel oddichi ghotai (Mother Mary
protectress of Carmel) was the golden thread that
sewed the whole gathering.
77 OCDS members from 8 Communities (St Joseph’s –
Mira Road, St Teresa of Avila – Londa, Little Flower
– Mysuru, Flos Carmeli – Honnavar, Infant Jesus –
Koteshwar, Infant Mary – Bajjodi, St John of the
Cross – Ryshivana, and St Teresa of Avila –
Bikarnakatte) and 5 Spiritual Assistants
participated in this meet. The gathering was opened
on October 23 at 9:30 a.m. by the Delegate
Provincial Rev. Fr Deep Fernandes. Rev. Fr Lawrence
D'Cunha, spiritual assistant of St. Joseph Community
at Mira Road, was the chief guest. Mrs Jacintha Lobo
(President – St Teresa of Avila, Bikarnakatte)
welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Benedicta D’Souza (St
Teresa of Avila, Bikarnakatte) compered the program.
On both days Marian themes were expounded. Rev Dr.
Rudolph Pinto (Spiritual Assistant of the host
Community) gave an enlightening session on “Mary in
the annals of the Catholic Church and Liturgy,”
while Rev. Fr. Deep spoke on “Authentic Marian
Devotion,” focusing in particular on the 5th chapter
of the OCDS Constitutions. Dr Vandana D’Souza,
Assistant Professor at Roshini Nilaya, discussed
“Marian devotion and its application in the
present-day context of family life.”
An evening cultural presentation was held on the
first day, during which each community exhibited its
talents and delivered important messages. Sports and
a Marian quiz were held on the second day, and
awards were given out.
The OCDS Provincial Council President, Mr Sebastian
Mendes (Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Margao) and
Counsellors – Mr Roy Rodrigues (St Therese, Lar,
Margao), Mrs Maria Christina (Little Flower, Mysore)
too were present.
