Release of a book on the Carmelite heritage at
Chimbel!
Mr. Fernando Dias Velho, an architect by
profession, who has been involved with the
Heritage Site at Chimbel, has published a book
along with Dr. Sidh Losa Mendiratta, titled: The
Church and Convent of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
Chimbel. They have painstakingly collected all
the documents and pictures related to the
Carmelite Tertiaries who lived there from
1747-1835 and systematically arranged them in
the book, to give us glimpse of the rich legacy
the Chimbel Carmelites have left behind.
The book was released at the hands of the
Provincial on 27th of July, 2021 at Carmelite
Monastery, Margao, in the presence of the Local
Conservation Committee at Chimbel. Participation
had to be restricted due to the ongoing pandemic
and Government regulations for gatherings.
We acknowledge the contribution of Fr. Archibald
Gonsalves (the previous local Superior) towards
this publication, which will go a long way to
help us in our efforts to reclaim the property.
Fr. Provincial congratulated and thanked Mr.
Fernando, who was present on the occasion. Dr.
Sidh is currently based in Portugal.
Fr. Anthony D’Souza, who is a member of our
community at Mapusa, has been authorized by the
Archbishop-Patriarch of Goa and Daman, to assist
the Parish Priest of Ribandar, by carrying out
pastoral ministry at the Chapel of Our Lady of
Livra-Febres, Chimbel.
