Christmas Celebration at the University of
Mysore: Integral Ecology and the Spirit of Christmas
The Department of Studies in Christianity and the Mysore Diocesan
Chair in Christianity, University of Mysore, organized a meaningful
Christmas celebration on December 17, 2025.
As part of the celebration, a special lecture was held on the theme
“Integral Ecology: Bridging the Environmental and Social Crises,”
inspired by Laudato Si’ of Pope Francis. The lecture was delivered
by Rev. Dr. Wilfred Rodrigues, OCD, Dean of Studies, Pushpashrama
Institute of Philosophy and Religion, Mysore. His insightful
reflections highlighted the urgent call to care for our common home
while fostering justice and solidarity with the poor and
marginalized.
The programme was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao, SJ,
Bishop of Mysore, who delivered a profound Christmas message and
imparted his episcopal blessing, encouraging all present to live the
true spirit of Christmas through compassion, responsibility, and
hope.
Professors and students from various departments of the University,
along with special invitees, graced the occasion, making it a
vibrant academic and spiritual gathering.
Adding to the festive joy, Brothers from St. Mary’s Minor Seminary,
formees from the neighbouring Bethany Convent, special children from
Grace Open School, and students of Jeevodaya Children’s Home
presented melodious Christmas carols and meaningful skits. Their
performances filled the campus with joy, warmth, and the true
Christmas spirit.
The celebration beautifully blended faith, scholarship, social
concern, and festive joy, making it a memorable and enriching
experience for all who participated.
