A Grace-Filled Milestone: The Platinum
Jubilee of Sr. Mary Frances, OCD
The 3rd of December 2025 was a day of immense grace and blessing for
the Cloistered Carmel of Mangalore, as the community joyfully
celebrated the 75th Jubilee of Religious Profession of their
senior-most sister, Sr. Mary Frances of the Blessed Sacrament. With
hearts filled with gratitude, the sisters thanked God for her
unwavering and persevering “Yes” to His call.
Born on 15 November 1929 in Uganda, Sr. Mary Frances returned to
India with her family at the age of ten. She completed her education
at St. Agnes College, Mangalore, and at nineteen responded
generously to God’s invitation by joining the Cloistered Carmel of
Mangalore. On 3 December 1950, she professed her vows, thus
beginning a life of profound dedication, prayer, and sacrifice. Over
the years, she has served the community in many significant ways,
especially as prioress for five terms, guiding the house with wisdom
and serenity.
Due to her fragile health and bedridden condition, she was unable to
join the Eucharistic celebration offered for her intentions.
However, the community visited her in her cell after Mass, where
they expressed their love and gratitude by cutting the Jubilee cake
and offering their heartfelt wishes.
It was a day of joyful thanksgiving for the entire monastery, all
the more special as Sr. Mary Frances became the second sister in the
house to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee of religious profession. The
jubilarian was deeply moved and delighted by the community’s
affection and the simple yet meaningful celebration held in her
honour.
May God continue to bless Sr. Mary Frances with His peace, joy, and
abiding presence as she radiates the beauty of a life fully
surrendered to Him.
