OCDS Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Community, Margao – Recollection and Admittance Ceremony (09th August)
On Sunday, 09th August, the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Community, OCDS, Margao, gathered for a spiritually enriching Recollection led by Rev. Fr. Jeevan Tauro, Spiritual Assistant. The session centered on the beauty and responsibility of the OCDS vocation, encouraging members to deepen their commitment to Christ through prayer and daily living.
The recollection began with a moving hymn to the Holy Spirit, invoking His presence among all gathered. This was followed by a proclamation of the Word of God, preparing the community to enter more deeply into the spirit and meaning of their Carmelite calling. A reflection on Matthew 19:16–26, the encounter of the Rich Young Man, highlighted the call to detachment and wholehearted discipleship. Members were invited to reflect on how their vocation shapes their spiritual lives, families, and communities.
In a heartfelt address, Fr. Jeevan spoke on the importance of living the Carmelite vocation in today’s world, reminding all present that the call to Carmel is a profound response to God’s love, one that must be reflected in both spiritual and personal life.
Following the recollection, the community witnessed the Admittance Ceremony. Five members—Elvina Saldanha, Laura Pinto, Maria Mascarenhas, Yvonne Mascarenhas, and Pio Santosh—were formally welcomed into Aspirancy. Each was called forward and received the emblem of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, presented by the President, Sr. Elizabeth Santos, OCDS, and the Director of Formation, Sr. Carol Mascarenhas, OCDS. This emblem signifies their commitment to journey in the Carmelite way of life.
The community then witnessed a special milestone as seven members were admitted into the Novitiate: Cynthia Pereira, Sharlon Fernandes, Sarita Alvares, Digna Lobo, Louise Fernandes, and Victor Carvalho, who were vested with the ceremonial scapular, marking a deeper step in their formation.
Gleeson Ozorio renewed his Temporary Promise, reaffirming his commitment to the Order. In a grace-filled moment, among the Friends of Carmel, Mrs. Alice Monte Da Silva was vested with the ceremonial scapular as a sign of her dedication, while Mrs. Engracia was also acknowledged.
The gathering concluded with a time of fellowship in the hall, where members extended their congratulations and shared tea and snacks in celebration of the joyous occasion.
The entire event was a grace-filled experience, strengthening the community in unity, prayer, and a renewed commitment to the Carmelite vocation.
