Independence Day @ at Infant
Jesus Shrine
68th Independence Day was celebrated at
Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte –
Mangalore on Friday morning. Mr. Roy
Castelino, President of Karnataka Konkani
Sahitya Academy hoisted the flag and
thereafter addressing the gathering he
highlighted the fact that India is an
emerging power in the world. In IT sector or
in the medical field, India has shown its
caliber and within five years India will
have an enormous youth power (youth below 45
years). Adding to that he also stated that
Indian Constitution has given national
status to 22 languages, therefore no one
should be ashamed to speak their native
languages that are included in the list of
national languages. The Konkani community
blends well in the society wherever they are
planted, which promotes peace and harmony.
The quality of losing oneself as salt or
sugar in the food makes this community
special one and this contributes highly to
the concept ‘unity in diversity’. Fr.
Stephen Pereira introduced the Chief Guest
to the audience and Br. Jeevan Lobo compered
the program.
