A Grateful Visit: Bishop Johannes Gorantla
OCD in Vancouver
On May 6, 2025, the Carmelite communities at Guardian Angels and
Little Flower Monastery, in Vancouver had the joy and privilege of
welcoming Most Rev. Johannes Gorantla OCD, the Bishop of Kurnool, in
their midst. His visit held deep significance, as it was during his
tenure and under his attentive guidance as the Definitor General
that this monastery was constitutionally recognized as a Foundation.
In 2020, he had also successfully obtained the necessary approval
from the Generalate in Rome, thereby canonically establishing the
Mount Carmel Spirituality Centre in Edmonton. His dedicated
involvement not only helped strengthen our presence in Canada but
also led to its elevation as a Provincial Delegation.
The community expressed heartfelt gratitude for Bishop Johannes’
unwavering support, visionary leadership, and fatherly concern for
the growth of the Carmelites in Canada. His presence among them was
experienced as both a blessing and an affirmation of their mission
and identity.
After spending a few days with the community in Vancouver, the
Bishop is scheduled to depart for Rome, where he would be attending
the installation ceremony of Rev. Fr. Saverio Cannistrà OCD, the
former Superior General, who was appointed by Pope Francis as the
new Archbishop of Pisa. The community offered their prayerful wishes
for Bishop Johannes’ safe journey.
