Carmelite Family Reunites for a Joyous Gathering in Goa
The long-awaited day finally arrived for the Carmelites of Goa, as they came together under the leadership of Fr. Marlon Rodrigues, the Superior, and Fr. Lancy Mendonca, at the Carmelite Monastery in Margao on March 30, 2025, the 4th Sunday of Lent. This much-anticipated gathering was a time of spiritual renewal, joyful interactions, and a strengthening of bonds among the members of the Carmelite family.

The program, shared in advance with the communities through their superiors, set the tone for an enriching experience. The participants arrived at 3:30 pm and were warmly welcomed with a cup of tea, setting the stage for the moments of grace that would follow. At 4:00 pm, all gathered in the monastery chapel for a solemn hour of adoration and thanksgiving, lifting their hearts in gratitude for the many blessings received.

Following this sacred time, a group photograph captured the spirit of unity and joy before everyone proceeded to the Museum Hall, where an array of antique exhibits offered a glimpse into the rich Carmelite heritage. The event took on a lively turn at 4:45 pm when three enthusiastic OCD postulant brothers welcomed the gathering with action songs, rekindling cherished memories of Novitiate and Juniorate days.

A stimulating quiz tested the depth of the participants' knowledge of Carmelite saints, with memorable quotes and words of wisdom being recalled. Initially, ten winners emerged, but through an engaging elimination round, the number was narrowed to five. The postulants did a commendable job managing the group of thirty sisters, ensuring that each activity was filled with both excitement and laughter.

Adding to the joy of the day was the esteemed presence of two Great Carmel Nuns from Chicalim and seven sisters from the CCR and Apostolic Carmel, bringing together a total of twenty members from both North and South Goa. Their presence further enriched the spirit of fraternity that permeated the event.

The delight of the day was evident in the eyes of Fr. Marlon, Fr. Lancy, and Fr. Santosh, the event's photographer, as they witnessed the solidarity and enthusiasm among the Carmelites. A dream long held—to bring the Carmelite family together—had been realized in this gathering.

Expressing his heartfelt appreciation, Fr. Marlon thanked the organizers for their efforts in making the event a success. Fr. Lancy, the convener, extended a warm invitation for the next gathering in July for the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, as well as the celebration on October 1, 2025, marking the centenary of St. Therese of the Child Jesus’ canonization. During the holy hour, Fr. Lancy beautifully highlighted the significance of this centenary, inspiring all present to deepen their devotion to the beloved saint.

As the day concluded, hearts were filled with gratitude, and a renewed sense of belonging enveloped the Carmelite family. This gathering was not just an event but a testament to the enduring spirit of fraternity, faith, and shared mission that binds the Carmelites of Goa together.
