A Grateful Farewell to Rev. Fr. Lancy
Mendonca: A Celebration of Love, Faith, and Blessings
On Saturday, 31st May 2025, the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Community,
OCDS Margao, Goa, gathered in deep gratitude and affection to bid
farewell to their beloved Spiritual Assistant, Rev. Fr. Lancy
Mendonca, who has been appointed as the Superior in Pune. The
farewell evening was a heartfelt tribute to a priest whose spiritual
guidance, humility, and warmth left an indelible mark on the
community.
The solemn yet joy-filled event was graced by Rev. Fr. Marlon
(Superior), along with Rev. Frs. George Santhumayor, Diogo Proenca,
and Kiran Lobo. The program opened with a prayer, creating a sacred
atmosphere, followed by a warm welcome from Community President
Elizabeth Santos, who expressed sincere appreciation for Fr. Lancy’s
pastoral presence and leadership.
A hymn to the Holy Spirit was sung, invoking divine blessings for
his new mission. The evening resonated with music and emotion
through a special farewell song by Sarita and Gracy, accompanied by
Savio Barreto on guitar, and a touching solo by Otilia. A moving
poem recited by Leoniz captured the essence of Fr. Lancy’s spiritual
influence, wisdom, and gentle presence.
In a unique gesture, each community member offered a heartfelt line
of appreciation, reflecting the deep bonds nurtured over the years.
The community also presented a handmade card adorned with memorable
photographs and a thoughtful gift—tokens of shared memories, joy,
and spiritual growth.
Cynthia delivered a heartfelt thank-you speech on behalf of the
community, expressing collective love and prayers for Fr. Lancy’s
future. In response, Fr. Lancy shared his gratitude for the warmth,
support, and spiritual companionship he had received. He encouraged
the community to remain steadfast in prayer and Carmelite
spirituality, promising to hold them in his prayers.
The farewell was more than a goodbye—it was a celebration of a
sacred journey. As Fr. Lancy steps into his new role, he carries
with him the love and prayers of a community forever touched by his
compassionate and dedicated ministry.
