Inauguration of the
newly-built Infant Mary Church at Bajjodi
The newly-built Infant Mary Church at Bajjodi
built by the Carmelites was solemnly inaugurated by
the provincial superior of the Carmelites of
Karnataka-Goa province Rev. Fr Charles Serrao OCD on
Friday January 2, 2015 at 9 am. It was a festive
atmosphere in Bajjodi as their dream of having a
parish church for the people of Bajjodi was realized
thanks to the able leadership of Fr. Melwyn D'Cunha
assisted by Fr. Deep Fernandes and the community of
Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte. There was a solemn
procession from the recently inaugurated convent to
the church in which the faithful participated with
great zeal and enthusiasm along with the Bishop of
Mangalore Most. Rev. Aloysius Paul D'Souza, the
Provincial Superior of Carmelites of Karnataka Goa
province V. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, Chancellor of
Mangalore Diocese Rev. Fr. Henry Sequeira, Episcopal
Vicar for Religious Rev. Fr. Pius James D'souza and
a number of priests from the Diocese and the
Carmelite Order. Most. Rev. Aloysius Paul D'Souza
presided over the Eucharistic celebration and
blessed the newly built Church. Rev. Fr Henry
Sequeira, Chancellor of Mangalore diocese read the
decree of the Bishop and proclaimed Bajjodi as
parish. After the Mass, the first parish priest of
the new parish of Bajjodi expressed his sentiments
of gratitude and honored them. A sumptuous meal
followed this short programme in which all the
people gathered partook with great joy.
