A Spiritually Enriching Good Friday at Mount
Carmel Spirituality Centre
The Good Friday celebration held on April 18, 2025, at Mount
Carmel Spirituality Centre, Stony Plain, Edmonton, was truly a
memorable and spiritually enriching experience. The day stood out
particularly because of the overwhelming number of faithful who
began arriving on the campus as early as 6:00 am. By 9:00 am, the
crowd had swelled significantly.
Fr. Jerome Moras, the Superior of the house, estimated that
approximately 3,500 people visited the centre throughout the day.
The friars—Fr. Jerome, Fr. Frank Sharma, and Fr. Kevin—began hearing
confessions at 8:30 am, providing the sacrament of reconciliation to
hundreds of penitents.
At 11:00 am, the solemn and official Stations of the Cross
commenced, drawing around 700 participants. The devotion concluded
by 12:30 pm, after which the friars resumed hearing confessions.
At 3:00 pm, the Good Friday Passion Liturgy began in the chapel,
with about 850 people in attendance. The chapel was filled to
capacity as pilgrims participated reverently in the liturgy, which
concluded at 8:30 pm.
All the friars cooperated wholeheartedly to ensure the smooth
functioning of the liturgical celebrations. The devotion, reverence,
and prayerful participation of the faithful made the day a
spiritually uplifting experience for all who gathered on this sacred
Carmelite campus.
