A Solemn Celebration of Unity and Mission:
Chrism Mass 2025 at St. Catherine’s Cathedral
On Tuesday, April 15, a solemn and grace-filled celebration of
the Chrism Mass took place at St. Catherine’s Cathedral in the
Diocese of St. Catherine, presided over by Bishop Gerard Bergie.
Prior to the liturgy, the priests of the diocese gathered for a
moment of fraternity and fellowship. The celebration brought
together approximately 67 priests, along with religious, deacons,
and seminarians, highlighting the unity and shared mission of the
diocesan family.
A dinner was hosted at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church Hall, where
Bishop Bergie took the opportunity to felicitate several priests
celebrating significant milestones in their priestly ministry,
including jubilee and ordination anniversaries. He also extended
warm congratulations to those who had recently entered the seminary,
encouraging them in their vocational journey.
On this occasion, Bishop Bergie offered his best wishes to Rev. Fr.
Roshan D’Souza, OCD, as he prepares to pursue his doctoral studies
in India. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for Fr. Roshan’s
dedicated service and ministry within the diocese.
Adding a spiritual and intellectual dimension to the evening, Rev.
Fr. Rudolf V. D’Souza generously distributed complimentary copies of
his two books: When I Cannot Pray and Words That Matter to all
attendees. Bishop Bergie then invited Fr. Rudolf to briefly speak
about the inspiration behind his works. In his reflection, Fr. Rudy
emphasized the importance of prayer in daily life, the Carmelite
approach to contemplative prayer, and the way the Carmelite charism
teaches prayer through witness and example.
The Chrism Mass was not only a celebration of sacramental grace but
also a testament to the vibrancy, unity, and spiritual depth of the
diocesan community.
