Remembering in Faith: OCDS Memorial Mass for
the Departed
On April 5th, 2025, members of the OCDS communities of Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel and St. Therese of the Child Jesus gathered for a
Eucharistic celebration to honour the deceased OCDS members and
their loved ones. The Mass, a solemn and prayerful celebration, was
celebrated by Rev. Fr. Lancy Mendonca. The service began with an
opening prayer, invoking God's mercy for the souls of the departed.
Rev. Fr. Lancy delivered a beautiful homily, reminding the
congregation to rejoice that our deceased loved ones are now in the
loving embrace of the risen Christ. A special moment of remembrance
followed during which each deceased member was named, and a few
moments of silence were observed in their honour. As the Mass
concluded, the community left strengthened in faith and renewed in
their commitment to pray for the souls of the faithful departed,
trusting in God's mercy and love.
Following the Eucharistic Mass, the community came together for a
warm and heartfelt fellowship gathering. Tea and snacks were served,
offering a space for members to connect and share memories in a
spirit of communion. During this time, several words were shared
about each of the deceased members, reflecting on their lives, their
dedication to the Carmelite way of life, and the impact they had on
the community. Family and fellow members spoke of their personal
memories, expressing gratitude for the contributions the deceased
had made to the faith and the bonds they had created within the
Carmelite community.
The atmosphere was one of warmth and remembrance, as everyone
reflected on the legacies of those who had passed. This gathering
served as a meaningful opportunity to celebrate their lives,
strengthen the sense of community, and offer mutual support as all
present journeyed together in prayer and fellowship.
